My Story
During a summer beak while earning my Bachelor of Science at the University of Victoria in 2003 I attended Capilano University in Vancouver for a 4 month program in Computer Animation and Visual Effects and fell in love with digital art.
After finishing my degree the search for employment brought me to Calgary, where I started started working for a local electronics company, Soundsaround. I quickly worked my way up to Marketing Director, in charge of running their online store, their print advertising and all of their in-store marketing material.
Like everyone who has left, I missed living on Vancouver Island, so when the owner of Soundsaround retired and closed shop I moved back to start my own business. For the last 5 years I've operated as Roycroft Creative in Nanoose Bay offering my graphic and web design services to clients all over Canada, and a few across the world.
A few of my more notable clients include:
- Black Press Media, a six month contract to help them launch the new paper, the Vancouver Island Free Daily, was extended into a full year. Duties included layout, placing ads, and operating their web and app based editions. Completed in September 2017.
- Island Exposures in Parksville, I run the shop whenever owner Craig Carmichael is unable, helped transform the business from an art gallery into a printing and framing shop, and use gallery space to display my art and meet with my local clients. January 2013 - Ongoing
- The FOAMguy in Nanaimo, created and help run John Day's website, represented the company at trade shows, and manage his online advertising. March 2014 - Ongoing
- Your Logo Glove, a small business in Nanoose run by Kevin Riley that provides branded golf gloves for tournaments across America and Canada. I created and run their website, provide all the graphic design needs including mock-ups for clients, and have represented the company at several trade shows in the US. Decmeber 2013 - Ongoing
- Dignitas International, a charity based out of Toronto that works on building resilient health systems and advancing the right to health for marginalized people and underserved communities across the world. I provide freelance graphic and web design services for them whenever they have a project too large to complete in house. March 2015 - Ongoing
