Young Social Entrepreneur

Ten year old Janel van Dongen has recently applied her young entrepreneurial skills to a wonderful cause…helping her neighbours in Nanoose Bay.

She created very special hand warmers out of flannelette cotton cloth filled with rice and sold them at her grandparents’ store, Springford Market, the last weekend in January and first weekend in February, 2018.

After carefully tallying up her income and expenses, Janel told supporters that they helped her raise $200 for Nanoose Community Services. “Everyone was very generous and kind, and I am very grateful to you all” she said.

Janel’s community-mindedness is exemplary. Perhaps other young people in Nanoose would like to follow her lead, learning micro-business skills while helping their neighbours?
